The Best International Education in Madeira
Leading International Education through the IB Programmes in Madeira
At International Sharing School – Madeira, students embark on a transformative journey through the International Baccalaureate (IB). Our curriculum encourages inquiry, reflection and global-mindedness, all within a nurturing environment.
Primary Years Programme
3 — 11 years old
We emphasise the development of soft skills, imagination, and exploration — both inside and outside the classroom.
Middle Years Programme
11 — 16 years old
The MYP encourages critical and reflective thinking, equipping students to meet future academic challenges with confidence.
Diploma Programme
16— 18 years old
Our DP offering prepares students for higher education with a globally recognised certificate that opens doors at universities worldwide.

“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.”
My educational philosophy is closely aligned with the IB Framework. I value an internationally minded approach, a conceptual curriculum, connections between disciplines and student voice and choice.
Student mental health has become an increasingly important issue, and I believe that schools play a vital role in helping students develop self-awareness and navigate the challenges they encounter in the world.
– David Tigchelaar, Principal of International Sharing School Taguspark
Multicultural
Our student body represents over 35 nationalities, creating a truly multilingual and multicultural community.
Being multicultural means embracing diversity, valuing differences, and learning from one another. At ISS Madeira, students contribute to a shared community that celebrates individuality while cultivating global citizenship.
Hospitality
We encourage students to show generosity and kindness towards their peers and the wider community.
Emphasising hospitality nurtures a sense of belonging, promotes collaboration, and fosters an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported.
Care
At International Sharing School – Madeira, we teach students to care for themselves, for others, and for the world around them.
Care is nurtured through hands-on activities such as tending to living beings, cultivating gardens, responsibly planting and harvesting food, and fostering sustainable practices. Most importantly, creating a supportive environment where everyone helps, trusts, and looks after one another builds confidence and empowers students to thrive.
Our beliefs at Sharing School – Madeira
We believe in Learning through Sharing to create a brighter future
We inspire and respect each student’s individuality, recognising how they build confidence and comfort in their learning journey. Students engage with and reinforce our core values, sharing knowledge and experiences to strengthen our community.
At International Sharing School Madeira, our multicultural community includes over 35 nationalities, and we are ready to support parents in English, Portuguese, Mandarin, Russian, German, French, and Spanish. While official communication—emails, online platforms, parent-teacher meetings, and events—is conducted in English, we are happy to assist families in the language they feel most comfortable with whenever possible.
Yes — it depends on the grade level your child wishes to join. While a good level of English is recommended, fluency is not required for admission to Primary School.
For Middle School, students should have a basic understanding of English. ISS Madeira offers an English Boosting Programme to support learners in improving their skills. For students entering Grade 10 and above (Diploma Programme), proficiency in English is required.
Yes, ISS Madeira accepts enrolments throughout the year up to Grade 10. However, due to the academic structure of the final years of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP), we are unable to admit students into Grade 10 or the DP once the school year has begun.
