Begüm holds a PhD in Biology and has an extensive research background in marine biology and genetics, including postdoctoral research focused on marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Her research experience has shaped her approach to teaching, helping students develop critical thinking and analytical skills,
With more than 10 years of teaching experience, Begüm has worked with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and is passionate about making science engaging, relevant and accessible. As a former IB student herself, she understands the challenges and opportunities of the IB journey.
In her classes, Begüm encourages curiosity and connects classroom learning to real-world scientific questions, helping students understand how biology shapes our knowledge of health, the environment and the living world.
Outside of school, Begüm enjoys spending time near the ocean, exploring nature and continuing to learn about biodiversity and marine conservation.
